Positive Effects of Lockdown: Bluer Skies, Fresher Air, Pristine Waters and Lesser Crimes

Ganesh B. Dhami As the Covid-19 outbreak ravages human lives, half of the world’s population is hunkered down indoors because of the lockdown. People are no longer out and about in the same way. The World Health Organization (WHO) declared the novel corona virus outbreak as the Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC) on January 30, 2020. Though, the corona virus outbreak has been proved to be the threat to public health, the natural world has started thriving positively with the onset of lockdown, as the humans stay at home. The earth is slowly healing while the wild animals have started roaming empty streets and nature is reclaiming the deserted urban areas. The ozone layer above the North Pole is healing slowly.  The current change in the environment and reduction in pollution level has come at a steep price. Complaint of the Old Tree (Poem)

-Ganesh B. Dhami I, who once was tall, young, gallant and hansome;   Drank sweet nectar from the earth's womb, Bathed in so many rainfalls, Witnessed so many ancient suns, Sheltered so many birds, Shaded so many humans, Endured so many icy-cold nights And scorching summer days; Have now become feeble and helpless. I still remember the old ploughman's wife Who watered me and lit a mustard oil-lamp; Died a year back. Even the dog that loved and visited me frequently till his last breath Died yesterday in a tractor's reckless drive. I heard the municipality d...

Ganesh B. Dhami                              The world is now combating the global pandemic called Covid-19. Barely a few countries which are untouched by this global enemy are there on the map. Not only the health of humankinds has been threatened and at a risk but also it has adversely halted almost every sphere of life at present. People have been confined within the four water-tight walls of the house in many countries due to lockdown in order to avoid Covid-19 contraction. Academies like universities and schools, public places, clubs, theatres, etc. have been locked for several months and weeks. The world economy has been terribly collapsed and paralyzed since almost all the economic activities have been kept at a bay for months to avoid the contraction of the disease. Many investors and businessmen are at the verge of bankruptcy. Some experts and analysts even claim that it is the time for pow...
